Haunting Tales of Downeast Maine
It was a dark and stormy night… Well, it was actually a beautiful Downeast fall evening. We gathered at the Congregational Church to read stories collected by Marcus LiBrizzi for publication in his new book, Ghost Stories from Downeast Maine. The audience of adults and kids of all ages sat under the light of two candelabras and listened to Tales Told, Jody and Lee Rose and special guest Greg Williams, read ghost stories with accompanying spooky sound effects. After the reading, the audience was invited to share their own ghost stories. The highlight of the evening was a group-tale told by six 10 – 12 year old girls: “He’s on the first step…”

Haunting Tales by the Fireside
Haunting Tales by the Fireside was Tales Told’s inaugural presentation. It was conceived as a collaborative project with UMM Associate Professor Marcus LiBrizzi as a vehicle to collect ghost stories for his book Ghost Stories from Downeast Maine. Under the direction of Associate Professor Lee Rose, UMM students and employees of The Porter Memorial Library performed stories from Prof. LiBrizzi’s collection that he had gathered from local legends. The reading followed by an informal session during which members of the audience shared other stories that Prof. LiBrizzi then had an opportunity to incorporate into his work.
